Oilsands

Due to the increasing global demand for oil, the extraction of bitumen from oil sands has become one of the growing alternatives to conventional crude oil production. The vast majority of the mineable deposits are located in the Athabasca region of Alberta, Canada, which is responsible for producing over 1 million barrels a day in a region containing billions of barrels of mineable reserves. Unlike the extraction of oil from a well, the extraction of bitumen is distinct and requires a more energy intensive process due to the viscous nature of the bitumen. At CiDRA, our industry experts understand not only the processes, but also the harsh conditions faced by our customers in the oil sands. As a result, we have developed sonar flow meters and pipe wear measurement technology to allow our customers to do what they do best- produce oil at the lowest cost in a safe and environmentally protective manner.
