In order to comply with ASME O&M regulatory codes for the power generation industry, a nuclear power plant in the United States had to perform tests on all six of its secondary salt water pumps to determine if maintenance was required. The pump’s performance is evaluated by measuring the flow rate. Other flow measurement technologies failed to provide an accurate reading due to distance from the pump, turbulence within the pipe, and the pipeline’s rubber lining. Our non-contact sonar flow meter proved to be the only solution to deliver accurate, repeatable flow measurement readings that allowed plant operators to test the pumps with confidence that the results were correct.
